An extensive extended cruise around the Land Down Under is being halted days after the tragic passing of an elderly lady who was stranded by the ship on a distant island.

The elderly woman had been walking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the cruise ship, but separated from the excursion for a break. The vessel sailed away leaving her and went back several hours later after the crew realised the lady was missing.

A large-scale search operation found her person the following day.

Authorities are examining the event, alongside investigators and the medical examiner.

Head of the shipping company announced that passengers and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were notified that the rest of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and earlier mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he further stated that travelers would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to organize the return journeys of the travelers via private aircraft".

Regulatory bodies also published an revised announcement, and said they had "issued a directive to the Master" prohibiting any new passengers from boarding the vessel.

The official said that they would visit the ship in the port city upon its arrival.

The ship first departed the Australian port on October 24th, and was merely two days into the journey at the point of the 80-year-old's death. The remote island was the initial destination on the journey.

Travelers on board - who generally pay large sums of money to join the expedition - were transported there for a day trip with the option of trekking or underwater exploration.
