Trump Calls Relatives of Shot National Guard Members to White House
Former President Trump announced on Sunday that he has invited the family of a Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the White House.
He added that he spoke to her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Information on the Tragic Shooting
Specialist Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a attack on Wednesday in DC.
Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.
Vigils across the state have occurred in their memory.
Presidential Offer
The president explained he’s proposed a White House visit for the families of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump informed the press. “And in the same way with him, recover or not.”
Community Reaction
Attendees gathered over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the military unit as part of the president’s government program to aid law enforcement in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“Sarah was the type of pupil that teachers hoped for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that inspired people around her,” the principal, the head of Beckstrom’s alma mater, told the media. “She was sweet, caring and always eager to support those in need.”
Memorial plans for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Actions and Government Adjustments
Law enforcement have charged a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The tragedy prompted the administration to pause asylum applications and halt issuing entry permits to holders of Afghan passports.
Status of the Airman
The airman, a native of Martinsburg, enlisted in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia governor Morrisey said on television.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi informed Fox News Sunday that she aimed to meet with the family.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County high school in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a MP with distinction, according to the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had fortitude,” Morrisey told the audience at the service. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
