Triple NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic sustained a "devastating" knee injury when the Nuggets were defeated 147-123 against the Heat.

The Serbian center sustained the injury in the latter stages of the opening half during an accidental collision with fellow Nugget Spencer Jones.

The other player stepped on the footwear of Jokic, and he immediately fell to the ground holding his knee.

The star, that tops the league season in rebounds and dimes, recorded a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the game before incurring the problem.

He will have an MRI on the following day to determine the severity of the issue.

"Right away, he realized there was a problem," said Denver head coach Adelman.

"Injuries are part of the game. Anyone that is injured, that's tough to see, most notably somebody as talented as Jokic. We'll find out more tomorrow."

"The team will adjust together. Clearly, at this moment, I am more concerned primarily about him personally and the disappointment of facing an event like that."
