People have assembled throughout the country to remember the second anniversary since the Hamas-conducted attack on 7 October 2023, as negotiations advanced in the neighboring country over a conclusion to the war in Gaza.

The attack resulted in more than 1,200 people dead and 251 others taken away to Gaza as hostages. It was the uniquely most fatal day for the Jewish community since the World War II.

Israel responded by launching a military offensive in Gaza which has taken over 67,000 people, based on figures from the region's Hamas-run health ministry. Its numbers are considered accurate by the UN and other international bodies.

"The aggressive opponents have struck forcefully, but they have not defeated us," the leader added on that day.

He also pledged to "accomplish all the goals of the war: the homecoming of all the captured, the removal of the Hamas government and the assurance that Gaza will never again create a danger to Israel".

Commemorative Events Across Israel

The Israeli government delayed formal commemorations until October 16th - after the end of the religious holiday season - but events still took place around the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the loved ones of Israeli citizens who died in the Hamas assault was held in Tel Aviv. Arranged by the victims' relatives, it was aired across Israeli TV networks.

Some time earlier, a moment of silence was respected across the country.

Peace Meetings in Egypt

Simultaneously, both sides' delegations gathered in the Egyptian coastal city of Sharm el-Sheikh for a continuing round of mediated discussions to review the conditions of the agreement.

A senior Palestinian official involved in the discussions indicated that an evening round of mediated discussions began at 7 PM local time.

The source said the day's discussions ended without tangible results, due to differences over the suggested Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas wants to guarantee Israel does not resume combat after the opening period of the agreement.

He added that the negotiations are "challenging and have yet to deliver any major advancement," but pointed out that mediators are making efforts to close the gaps between the conflicting groups.

Essential Issues in Negotiations

  • A permanent halt to fighting
  • The swap of the prisoners still held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The pullout of troops from Gaza
  • Plans for assistance deliveries
  • Post-war management of the area

Citizen Feeling

In the city's memorial area that day, 29-year-old Hagar - whose sibling lived through the incident on the gathering, where many attendees were killed and dozens more were abducted by Hamas militants - shared: "No location appears as home anymore and until every captive return not a single person will have peace of mind."

"Once we see everybody home again, we can feel relief anew. Then we can begin to recover," she continued.

In front of the prime minister's home in Jerusalem, people gathered to demonstrate their backing for the families of the abducted. Israel states nearly fifty remain in detention in Gaza, twenty of whom are considered to be living.

Demonstrator one woman stated: "It's necessary do whatever arrangement required for the captives to be released. But we sincerely need assurances that we will be secure."

Opinion polls now frequently demonstrate that approximately the majority of the population want the hostilities to conclude in as payment for the liberation of the hostages.

Gaza Situation

At the location of the gathering, grieving people came together to honor the dead.

From that location, the sound of military attacks and artillery could be noticed just a brief space away in Gaza, where local people reported the severe Israeli shelling persisted.

In the urban center, air and artillery strikes were reported in the morning of that day in the western neighborhood, Rimal and locality neighbourhoods and in the east side district of the community, as well the settlement to the northwest.

"As the night comes, the fear comes with it," displaced urban resident a mother, whose teenage son was died by an Israeli aerial attack earlier, explained.

"We are afraid of the attacks. All the night we are lying together, holding each other, particularly my smallest child who puts his head on me all night."

"Every second we check the updates to see the situation. And I'm concerned that this ceasefire will not be completed and that the fighting will return to us."

Humanitarian Situation

The healthcare center in Gaza City reported it had taken in the corpses of several people by the midday, including several killed in an Israeli attack in the south part area.

Nasser hospital in the south region of that area reported two more dead people had been delivered. A person was lost his life by Israeli troops while looking for assistance to the south, medical staff stated.

The region's health ministry reported twenty-five of the {territ
