Seconds before the announcement, a nervous worry raced through his mind. He said he was hoping, "Not an F1 driver this time."

"Tonight represents a fantastic night for golf," he stated. "Our game was honored in such a major way, with the team winning and then with my award. It's a special evening for golf, and perhaps we can use that."

This time around, however, there was no dramatic upset. The verdict was clear, allowing a thrilled McIlroy to enjoy a standout evening for both himself and the continental winners, who were crowned the year's best team.

Non-Stop Adventures

Instead of opting to stay for the aftershow party, McIlroy was already plotting his next sporting adventure. After played in the Golf Channel Games in Florida and jetted to the UK, he was heading straight back to the sunshine state.

"I've had a frantic 24 hours," McIlroy explained. "I'm looking forward to a little bit of rest over Christmas."

Drive to Improve

Nevertheless, McIlroy insisted he has no intention to slow down, even after completing the ultimate golfing achievement earlier in the year. "I still feel I've got a several strong seasons in me," he claimed.

"More majors, tour championships, international events, that's great. But if you feel like you can keep getting better and have the drive, that's the most important thing."

Team Triumph

At the same time, teammate Tommy Fleetwood, who was on stage to collect the team award, also lauded golf's remarkable night and his pal's individual success.

"Those are the memories that will stay with us for all time so to get the fan's acknowledgment for that is really cool," he commented. "And to be there Rory receive that award, I think he deserves it so much."

When reminded that McIlroy was only the third golfer to win the award in its long history, Fleetwood smiled before joking, "Not a very popular bunch are we!"

Next Targets

Fleetwood hopes to finally win his initial major championship next year but he acknowledged McIlroy still craves more success. "As long as you want to be the greatest possible version of yourself, and you're still driven, you'll find things to work on," the 34-year-old said.

Before McIlroy left, a last query came up. A devoted Manchester United fan, he has been requested to display his trophies at Old Trafford before. Would he be persuaded to do it again after his recent triumphs?

"Provided that they stop conceding so many goals on their own pitch," he answered with a smile. "Improvements are being made. There's a little bit of optimism around."

Following a 2025 for the ages, it's no wonder that Rory McIlroy is seeing the bright side.
