Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking British fashion designer who crafted some of the most iconic looks associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.

His reputation was built on his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, including the soft-colored suits that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

Price's death comes just weeks after he unveiled his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was behind the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A key creative partner of the late David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to blend menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in designing form-fitting garments made him a "true original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he started creating pieces for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including a number of outfits for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

After a career spanning over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Dramatic Impact: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The fashion world mourns the loss to a authentic original whose legacy on the visual landscape of music remains profoundly felt.
