The Banking Giant Notified American Government About Over $1 Billion in Epstein-Related Financial Activities Possibly Tied to Trafficking Operations

Newly unsealed records disclose that America's largest bank filed a SAR in 2019 alerting government regulators about more than $1 billion in transactions connected to the convicted sex offender that may have been related to human trafficking.

Bank's Comprehensive Documentation of Questionable Activity

JP Morgan flagged approximately 4,700 transactions amounting to over $1 billion that were possibly linked to trafficking allegations involving the financier, as reported in the newly released court documents.

The report was submitted only a few weeks after Epstein was found dead in a Manhattan detention facility and also flagged wire transfers made by the financier to financial institutions in Russia.

Prominent Figures Named in Documentation

The SAR named several prominent corporate leaders and individuals in connection with the flagged transactions, such as:

  • Leon Black, that left Apollo Global Management in 2021
  • The hedge fund manager, a prominent financial executive
  • Alan Dershowitz, who served as legal counsel for Epstein
  • Trusts under the direction of retail tycoon the retail magnate

This documentation particularly noted $65 million in electronic payments from the mid-2000s that seemed to transfer between various financial institutions associated with the Wexner-controlled entities.

Legal and Political Examination

The bank's 15-year relationship with the convicted sex offender has become a source of significant legal scrutiny and political attention.

These released records were included in 2023 litigation initiated by the US Virgin Islands, where Epstein owned a personal island property and managed the majority of his monetary operations.

Furthermore, victims of trafficking by the financier also participated in the legal action, which JP Morgan eventually settled.

Financial Institution's Response and Oversight Context

A spokesperson for JP Morgan stated that the release of the suspicious activity reports shows the bank had alerted oversight authorities about Epstein as required.

The representative stated: "These reports verify what was previously suspected: the bank filed SARs about the financier promptly, and particularly when it terminated relationship with Epstein from the bank in 2013 – and consistently between 2013 and 2019, as required."

She added: "There is no indication that federal authorities or investigative agencies responded to those reports for an extended period."

Personal Reactions and Legal Position

Representatives for the identified persons have issued various responses regarding their mention in the report:

  • The hedge fund manager's spokesperson stated that the transactions in question were not connected to the financier's illegal activities
  • Alan Dershowitz claimed the only funds he obtained from the financier were for legal services
  • The private equity founder's spokesperson chose not to respond

Crucially, not one of the persons named in the documentation have been faced criminal charges in connection to the financier.
