While People in Germany traditionally possessed a reputation as the continent's most devoted advocates of public nudity, recent survey data reveals that Danish individuals are both more accepting concerning undressing in open spaces, and also more inclined to have engaged in it.

Research Parameters

This extensive survey included six continental countries – the UK, Denmark, the French republic, the German state, the Italian peninsula and the Spanish kingdom. Results showed that participants from Denmark stood out as most inclined to assert that public nudity was completely fine – plus to have followed through.

General Attitudes Across Europe

Natural Setting Views

Danes showed increased tolerance toward public nakedness in the rural areas. Meanwhile, most people in other countries – ranging from fifty-eight percent in Germany to seventy-eight percent in the UK – viewed hiking nude as inappropriate.

Open Water Nudity

Regarding open water nudity in the ocean, lakes and rivers, Danes exhibited significantly the highest tolerance. Around 64% considered the practice perfectly acceptable, versus only twenty-five percent of Italian respondents, 31% of French respondents, 32% of UK residents and 49% of respondents from Germany.

Personal Experience Levels

Participants from Denmark not only voice positive views but also exhibited significant engagement rates. In response to queries about in what seven settings they had actually stripped off as grown-ups, the majority of respondents from Denmark reported one or more occasion.

Historical German Practices

Participants from Germany, however, demonstrated their champion status when it involved stripping off in locations purposely established for nudist practices. This reflects Germany's historic "free-body culture" – a practice dating back to the nineteenth century.

Despite falling interest in modern times, the German nation remains among most permissive states globally for being naked in public in authorized locations. Areas of shorelines, lakesides plus campgrounds are officially set aside for clothing-optional recreation.

Designated Naturist Sites

The survey showed that just twelve percent of Danish respondents had practiced nudity in official nudist locations such as beaches and campgrounds. This was higher than British participation at six percent, paralleled France's percentages at 14% along with Italian at 11%, however remained lower than Spanish 22% plus German 25%.

Future Willingness

Danes furthermore showed higher inclination to practice being naked publicly going forward. Around 50% stated they would be open to strip off in a public place, against forty-two percent of Germans, thirty-eight percent of respondents from Spain, 34% of French respondents and 29% of both UK residents and respondents from Italy.

Population Differences

In all participating states, men showed higher willingness than women toward being naked publicly. Generational differences also emerged: In Denmark, younger generations appeared more accepting to clothing-optional practices, while in the German context the contrasting situation emerged.

Specifically, 31% of young adults stated openness to strip off in public, against 46-48% of older adults.
