Supporters Urge Detainment of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Passionate supporters of the actress are calling for that a person who leaped a barricade and seized the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good launch be detained or expelled from Singapore.
A widely shared clip shows the individual from Australia pushing past camera operators and charging at Grande while the performers made its way down a promenade flanked by supporters.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo immediately pulled the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being removed of the event by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram recently that he was "free after being detained", though legal records showed that he was set to be present on the next day. It is not clear if he was faced legal action.
History of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a celebrity gathering. His Instagram profile features recordings of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including rushing the platform at the pop singer's Sydney concert in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers event in the city last winter.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," stated an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user questioned.
Supporters Show Disapproval Over Grande's Well-being
Many followers blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had discussed suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and harming hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" commented another response on Instagram.
A number of supporters also questioned guards at the gathering for not being adequately prepared; while others called for online networks to ban Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In footage circulating online, Grande looked surprised when she was grabbed by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was led out by staff.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Many of supporters had assembled in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore shopping center, including several who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it started.
The motion picture, to be released on the 21st of November, is the second of a two-film version of the acclaimed stage production Wicked, which centers on the surprising bond between two distinct characters.
The production itself is a adaptation of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was dressed in a rosé sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were alongside fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the top-earning film of last year in the UK, and earned a dozen award recognitions, winning a pair for best costume and set decoration.
