More than 50 lone child asylum seekers who disappeared shortly after arriving the UK and while in the care of government agencies are yet to be found, according to figures gathered.

A significant number of the vanished youths came in vessels or concealed in the backs of vehicles and are thought to have been taken by traffickers. Kent is commonly the area where they initially reach.

Government Figures Reveals Concerning Statistics

Disclosed data has documented 345 children disappearing from their area, with 56 of those remaining unaccounted for.

Between 2021 and 2023, when designated facilities for children operated along with hotels in various locations, 132 children vanished from the accommodations. Of these, 108 were eventually recovered but 24 are remain unaccounted for.

Between 2020 and August 2025, 213 children disappeared from welcome hubs for these minors, with 182 recovered and 32 remaining vanished.

Nationality Breakdown of Missing Children

In the two scenarios, youths of Albanian origin were the largest group to go missing, accounting for 50% the overall number from the facilities, 68, and in excess of one-fourth from the welcome hubs, 65.
