My feeling was I got a touch - Alex Carey on overturned decision.

Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey revealed he felt he had edged the ball when he was reprieved on DRS during day one of the 3rd Ashes Test against the English.

After surviving on 72, Carey went on to make a superb 106 to aid the home side reach 326-8 at the end of play in the Adelaide Oval.

The Key Moment

The home side were 245-6 when Carey went for a cut to seamer Josh Tongue.

England were convinced they had a wicket, believing they had detected an nick, but umpire Ahsan Raza was unmoved.

After skipper Ben Stokes referred the decision, the footage reviewed by third umpire Chris Gaffaney displayed a spike although this registered prior to the ball had made contact with the bat.

Gaffaney added he was of the opinion there was a space between the bat and the ball.

Therefore, Carey was reprieved.

"There was a sound, I thought I'd nicked it," commented Carey.

"If I was given out I think I would have reviewed it, probably not confidently. There was a definite noise."

Controversial 'Snicko'

Discussion has swirled about 'the Snickometer' during the series after a series of inconclusive calls.

England's bowling coach David Saker suggested England may take this latest incident further with the match official Jeff Crowe.

"We haven't acted yet, but following today's events, that could change," Saker said.

"We've had doubts about it throughout. We shouldn't be talking about this after a day's play, it should just be better than that. That's where we are."

A Special Hundred

His hundred was his maiden in the Ashes.

It was also an emotional moment for Carey, whose father passed away in September. His spouse was crying in the crowd as the batsman marked the occasion by glancing upward.

"A hundred on home soil with loved ones present is unforgettable," said Carey.

"You can probably understand my glance skyward. I'm fighting back the tears. It was a fantastic feeling."

History of Controversy

This isn't Carey's first brush with Ashes drama.

He was the wicketkeeper who notoriously dismissed Jonny Bairstow at Lord's in the 2023 series, resulting in a intense final day.

Regarding the overturned decision he continued: "The technology clearly wasn't synchronized. It is just the way cricket goes - sometimes you have a bit of luck."
