Jurgen Klopp states rejoining to lead Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, remarked that a future comeback remains an option. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful near-decade reign that included continental glory and ending the club's long wait in 30 years, now holds roles in a global football capacity within the Red Bull organization and providing guidance with the German Football League.
Fan Sentiment and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
Liverpool won the Premier League in the previous campaign, but many fans who revere Klopp would welcome the possibility that he may eventually return. In a wide-ranging interview, he told the podcast host: “I declared I won't manage a different club in England. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...absolutely. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“Being 58, which suggests the choice could be mine in a few years, it's uncertain. Is a decision required immediately? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, no such pressure exists. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding which situations would need to occur to bring him back to the dugout, he revealed he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “No longing for management; I don’t miss standing in the rain for lengthy sessions; I don’t miss going to interviews multiple times weekly or having 10-12 interviews a week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area per se, but sitting in a restaurant alongside the squad talking freely, that’s nice. We won a lot of games so there was often positive atmosphere at the club. Remaining with me is the captain's chuckle vividly recalled for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly of the current boss, praising him for the tweaks which secured the championship last campaign. Liverpool have lost four in a row in every contest post heavy investment, though he denied the suggestion it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward such as Wirtz, critics will regret with negative comments. He’s an incredible talent. Ekitike, excellent performer. This is a well-built balanced team. You don’t have to worry over the club, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
He shared movingly regarding the passing of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in during his tenure, along with the consequences at the club. The Portugal international was killed in a vehicle collision together with his sibling recently.
“How do you replace such an individual? It’s not about his on-field talent, it's his character. I struggle to conceive the team environment absent his presence. Putting it into words is tough on this topic. A devastating blow for the entire squad as well. Nobody at Liverpool might employ it to justify results though it's a fact. Being in that space where his spirit remains. Dealing with that individually is difficult. Unbearable.”
