Iran Claims Attack on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Amid Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed operations across the region in retaliation for a significant and ongoing assault against it by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone close to the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any destruction is uncertain and the United States has yet to issue a statement.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - reported they have shot down missiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on Iran initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That preceding assault - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted sites associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the people of Iran to revolt against the regime.
Regional Fallout
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the missiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," the statement continued.
It said debris landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
