Following a festive period filled with indulgent treats and downtime, numerous individuals head into January looking to regain their fitness momentum.

However, is it possible that Artificial Intelligence be transforming the fitness industry by offering an option to human coaches?

Personalized Programs and Adaptable Timelines

Leah Walsh used an artificial intelligence application for last-minute training for the a major running event.

The 21-year-old hailing from a town in Wales explained she appreciated the liberty to pose queries at all hours – something she felt was unavailable with a traditional coach.

She used an AI-driven running app that gave her customized schedules with audio coaching and pace setting for her first long-distance race in 2024.

She explained she requested it to design a plan merging running and the gym, and it produced an 11-week programme customized to her event day and goals.

The user then tweaked the schedule to suit her daily routine, which she described was highly practical.

The following year, she opted for a different tool because it was more affordable and she could ask it questions whenever she wanted. She finished a full minute quicker than her goal time.

She said she did not want feeling pressure from a human personal trainer.

"Using AI you have to find your own drive, which I quite like," she remarked.

Remarkable Fitness Improvements

In a similar case, Richard Gallimore, 23, from a Welsh city, has been using AI for his fitness and diet plans, and reported he has achieved peak strength, boosting his bench press from 70kg to 110kg.

He turned to a AI assistant for help after being unable to run a race.

"I realized I had to sort myself out," he commented.

This no-cost application built a fitness and meal program tailored to his aims, and established structured routines.

"I work out for about two hours a day and I've seen a real difference," he said.

The Expense Contrast: Technology vs. Conventional Training

A recent survey in late 2024 analyzed prices for numerous of the biggest fitness chains and found the average membership cost was approximately forty pounds a month, based on basic full-access plans.

Fees started at £23 at the most affordable provider to £132 at the highest-priced.

Based on further data, personal trainers determine their own fees, typically a range of thirty to sixty-five pounds per hour-long session outside London and about £45-£65 in the capital.

Clients will often use a trainer once or twice a week and collaborate for a short period, but these arrangements are completely flexible.

The Irreplaceable Human Touch

Personal trainer one experienced professional, based in the Welsh capital, said artificial intelligence can be useful to accelerate results, but believes it will not supplant the human connection and accountability that live training offers.

This expert, who has 12 years experience as a trainer, specialises in older adults and recovery from injuries. He mentioned some of his clients also employ AI.

"In my opinion it's extremely useful, additional information is good," he said.
"I think the more people are connected digitally the more they'll want human connection because they want the warmth from the comprehension that is absent from a computer," he added.

Dafydd explained Artificial intelligence can inform users and make coaching more efficient.

But, he said true dedication comes when people show up physically for training.

"No matter how helpful as it is at 2am, a digital tool cannot ensure you show up at early morning before work," Dafydd added.

In the view of many, he suggested, the fitness center is a space to leave phones behind and take a break from technology.
